Jacobs juga adalah Direktur Kreatif rumah busana Prancis Louis Vuitton. Jacobs bersekolah di High School of Art and Design di New York City dan lulus pada tahun 1981. Saat berumur lima belas tahun, Jacobs bekerja di Charivari, sebuah butik pakaian di New York City. Kemudian Jacobs melanjutkan studi di Parsons School of Design, New York City.
